Hypocrisy spans the ages

I’m not one to thumb through my old scrapbooks, but I went into the Wayback Machine this weekend because I was put in mind of one of my early political pieces by recent events. I retrieved a column from the early-oughts web magazine Alicubi (and yes, that’s what alicublog came out of, in case you’re doing an unauthorized biography), concerning a then-recent event which, like a lot of stuff in those days (and, let’s face it, these days too), had been covered by both the rightwing and the prestige press in a way that beggars belief — my belief, anyway.
