I’ve been paying attention to horrible and wrong people for years and some of them I have managed to forget about for long periods. One such was, until recently, Cathy Young, a contributor to Reason, which is in itself pretty much an immediate disqualification from serious consideration, and a longstanding member of the Cancelculture Crybaby Clique that fluffs rightwing crackpots on the grounds that liberals have been mean to them, which the Clique takes for censorship.
For example, Young was front and center in 2018 blubbering that the Atlantic was cancelculturing Kevin D. Williamson because they let him go after learning he believed women who had abortions should be executed. (At-will employment is for the little people.) She didn’t even have the courage of those convictions, though, saying she was “reasonably certain this was not a statement of Williamson’s actual views, especially since he has expressed qualms about the death penalty in general.” Imagine defending the aggro buffoon Williamson on grounds that he’s too much of a softy to mean what he said!
Then Young found an even worse defense: “he was talking about what he believes should happen (both to women and to medical staff participating) after abortion is outlawed and declared a homicide. Laws don’t apply retroactively.” Oh, well then.
