In 2011 I was working for Rupert Murdoch on one of his classier publications where, contrary to scurrilous stories you might have heard, we were (at least I was) never so much as nudged away from the proud journalistic integrity in which we all believed. For example, I was at the time writing a column called, “Obama: Is He Smart?” in which I came to the counter-intuitive conclusion that “the president isn't very bright.” Murdoch didn’t push me to say the President was mentally disabled or brain damaged, though I’m sure such a conclusion would have pleased him very much. That’s the sort of newspaperman he was — but, alas, seems to be no longer.
