Trump's Alleged Race Gaffe Proof of Media Malfeasance
A column by Throckmorton Yggdrasil, Esq., National Review senior editor
As is their wont, the Democrats and liberal media have exacerbated divisions in our nation for which they themselves are more or less solely responsible, pretending the President’s unorthodox comments during the second Presidential debate, for which there is a perfectly good explanation, were (absurdly) “racial slurs.”
This tempest-in-a-teapot started when, as the President cruised to what an unbiased observer would certainly declare a crushing victory, moderator Steve Scully tried to throw a lifeline to hapless Democrat Joe Biden by advancing the tedious but expected debate topic of so-called “racial” “tension” in the United States, despite the documented fraud of the “1619” narrative and the President's approval by numbers of African-American Republicans that are larger than usual considering the media bias with which the President has had to contend.
After the usual politically-correct nonsense from Biden, the President said something that sounded to this dispassionate observer like “Fun is knickers,” an expression I heard frequently in my Fair Lawn, New Jersey neighborhood in the early Oughts, which my mates and myself frequently said to indicate that we were having a good time, albeit with an “ironic” overlay of the sort that was popular among young people such as ourselves at that time.
While those who watched the debate without prejudice certainly saw it exactly as I did, despite biased polls skewed to make it seem otherwise, those who only saw the media reaction might have a quite different and totally false impression, as liberal outlets claimed the President had uttered a disgusting slur that, it should be clear to every sensible person, no decent Republican would ever use in public, even if he were as “unfiltered” and politically incorrect as we and all Working Class People love our President for being.
The President seemed to understand that his statement, which was met with gasps by the biased media professionals on set (including the earlier-tainted Scully) and the chattering classes on social media, would be misconstrued, and did viewers the service of informing them that it was actually Biden who had used the slur, which the President then articulated very clearly, and repeated several times so that his meaning might not be misunderstood.
The President was rewarded for his truth-telling by so-called “journalists” who mischaracterized it as “reveling” (New York Times) and “luxuriating” (Washington Post) in a “racist obscenity” (Financial Times). Some hard-left outlets such as the Wall Street Journal even claimed the President did “a little dance of joy” as he was repeating (it cannot be stressed enough) the offensive term Biden had used, when in reality the President was suffering from a bout of a serious but non-Presidency-disqualifying physical condition that makes him appear to be dancing when he is actually in great pain and extremely respectful of and sympathetic toward African-Americans, which condition has never been previously reported because of a curious conspiracy of silence among the liberal media.
Biden’s real-racism, meantime, has been confirmed by more trustworthy journalistic sources such as Ben Shapiro, Gateway Pundit, and QAnon Save The Babies JFK Jr. Kill Democrats Brain Pills Emporium. But the tired old liberal media hands just keep on trying. When the President said “I got no problem with Hitler,” for example, they pretended, absurdly, that he was talking about Adolf Hitler, when he clearly meant the great conservative philosopher Hyman Hitler. His interest in this obscure figure puts the lie to liberal portrayals of the President as intellectually incurious.
If undecided voters were momentarily bamboozled by these unfair characterizations, it is certain that the President dispelled their doubts when Scully, hoping for a repeat of the big “gotcha” moment from the first debate, asked the President if he would denounce “neo-Nazis.” The President simply refused to take the bait and triumphantly told Scully: “Like the Democrats were so innocent — you know a lot of them were in the Ku Klux Klan with my dad.” Check and mate, liberals!
My favorite post-debate surrogate was Pennsylvania’s own Rick Santorum, always a colossal dummy, who tried to spin by plaintively explaining the president COULDN’T disavow the Proud Boys because racists and white nationalists are his base. I know they’ve been saying the quiet part out loud for ages now, but it’s hard to imagine a more perfect own-goal.
Congratulations on winning first place in the 2020 Bulwer Litton Contest (William F. Buckley division)!
