Trump announces the killing of Baghdadi yesterday morning. Within 12 hours, America is treated to one of the greatest spectacle of the Trump presidency: Donald Trump getting booed and greeted with chants of "Lock him up!" when he appears at the World Series game.

I have to hope that “taking the oil” only resonates with Trump’s mad dog base, just like all of his rally cries do. Everyone else must realize there’s no easy, feasible way to do this without ongoing bloodshed. We’re going to take the oil in the same way we’re also in the process, apparently, of building a wall across the border to Mexico (Colorado?), even though no one can see it.

I prefer my patriotism from the fans who chanted “lock him up” at the Nats game.

Yeah, the transcript of his thing had some real gems:

"I got someone much, much, much bigger than Osama. I got Al Baghdadi. The Al Baghdadi everyone was always talking about. Three years ago, first thing I said when I walked into the White House after writing all those very successful books and winning all those millions of electoral votes, I said "where's Al Baghdadi? When do we get Al Baghdadi?" I said "What kind of name is that, 'Al Baghdadi'? The guy's named after a city? Seriously? So like I'd be Donald Newyorko? Is that how it works?" No one answered me. And you know how you can tell this is a bigger deal? Because Obama only took 9 or 10 minutes to announce the death of bin Laden, and I'm already up to like what, an hour here?"

Waiting for the first-hand accounts of the raid and Baghdadi's death that refute in toto Trump's lurid description. If it hadn't been so early in the day, I could've gotten stinking drunk with a sip of (tariffed) Scotch whiskey for each "tremendous" and "very, very." He has so little faith in the power of the shit he slings, true or false, that he has to amplify it with the simplest of repetitive superlatives.

Trump's press event about al-Baghdadi was predictably disgusting, bizarre and incoherent. I would be surprised if his base voters actually understood most of it. Assuming he is still the nominee for reelection next year, do we really think he will be anything other than a gibbering and possibly increasingly physically incapacitated mess? And that this will make him a powerful vote getter for the GOP? Not buying it.

I can't be alone in thinking that, whatever he said about oil, nothing is going to happen. "We" are not "taking" it, no matter how magnificent the nearby airport is. I think this is true about literally everything he says. He brags he's going to do X, nothing happens, and few days later he brags about Y. And so on, unto the heat death of the administration.
