I try to imagine a post T Rump world: and wonder just what Melania's second act will be...I have some pity for the kid, as i don't see how he doesn't into another loathsome specimen like Don JR or Eric ...and ya know, "an outrage" ain't what it used to be.
I would be very surprised if Barron had much to do at all with his older siblings all of whom are old enough to be his actual parents. And that's even more the case with his father too. During the campaign, it was famously reported that Trump refused to have anything to do with the parenting of his own children until they became teenagers and old enough to be useful to him. Barron lives with his grandparents in MD (and often Melania lives there too). I obviously don't know this kid but I'd like to think that he, like Tiffany, would prefer to grow up to be a normal person and not a corrupt loser like the rest of the family.
Melania's next act will be a post-White House divorce with a depressingly small payout (under the circumstances, if the Maples split is any guidance), NDA and threat of death for telling any truths.
But when it comes to Melania, I really don't care.
Yesterday I was so annoyed that the media were actually reporting on this ridiculous garbage I had to just walk away. The GOP have the gall to claim Karlan’s anodyne remark was insulting to Barron? Chelsea Clinton would like a word.
Indeed. It's yet another example of how every dribbling bit that comes from GOP lips MUST be treated with gravity and respect. Thus:
GOP outrage over Obama suggesting kids stay in school merits two weeks of earnest media discussion on whether or not it is elitist to educate children, BUT Democrats noting that Bush and Cheney committed actual crimes against humanity as defined by the Geneva Conventions is just typical partisan sniping and not worth even reporting.
GOP outrage over the homophonic properties of "baron" and "Barron" merits in-depth coverage on the breakdown of civility, BUT the Democrats presenting an air-tight case for bribery and abuse of office is just partisan he-said/she-said frippery.
Usually, Roy, your scripts have such verisimilitude that it takes me a bit to realize or remember that it's all creative fiction on your part. But today's offering falls flat because of one huge glaring error--you made Melania act like she would defend Barron against Donald. As near as I can tell, Melania is every bit as much of a malignant shit as Donald is. She would gladly sacrifice her kid to Moloch if she thought it would advance her personal interest.
It is amazing to me that the media is able to take a remark which is obviously about Trump and not his kid and turn it into an attack on his kid. I don't know if I should be glad I'm still able to be amazed or disgusted that I still am though.
I’m already saying this ad nauseum but Melania — gold digger who allowed her wealthy catch disfigure her face — complaining about a reference to son (who likely has some sort of developmental issues) while being fine with her husband literally being complicit in the killing of many children, please, with all due respect, Melania could go fuck herself. Disgust. Then again, Donnie’s nothing if not a shit magnet, attracting only the worst people.
She didn't write that tweet. I think it's mostly Miller, with the telltale alliteration in "you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering," but that awkward placement of "very angry" is Donald.
My paper was admittedly folded so I may have missed something, but from what I read Karlan said "Contrary to what President Trump has said, Article II does not give him the power to do anything he wants. I’ll just give you one example that shows you difference between him and a king, which is the Constitution says there can be no titles of nobility." This is true, and it's the crux of her testimony. Trump committed crimes and obstructed justice if he were a monarch above the law. I gather she went on to say that Trump, not being a king, couldn't make his kid a baron. Which is also true. It sound to me like this is all some kind of deliberate distraction from all the testimony yesterday. Thank god our national media doesn't fall for this sort of thing.
I'm honestly wondering why high-level appointees -- let alone Congressmen and Senators -- haven't done what Roy's fictional Barron does; don't make half-assed resignation statements about how unfortunate it is that the President fails to live up to (etc.); don't make anonymous remarks to MSM court scribes about how indignant and disgusted everybody is about (etc.); just walk out, hold a press conference and say "ladies and gentlemen, Donald Trump is a lazy, ignorant, loudmouthed fool; and those are his *least* repulsive qualities." What is the worst that can happen to you? You write your book, you get your job as a commentator on MSNBC (maybe Morning Joe's replacement), your lifestyle doesn't skip a beat. Are they that afraid of angry emails from anonymous MAGAts?
They don't speak out for a variety of reasons. The most common is that they agree 100% with everything Trump says and does. Trump is, after all, the Republican id dancing naked in the fields.
But the other common reason is that they're terrified of their own base. For electoral reasons--getting primaried from the Right and thus becoming unemployed. Or because they understand that a substantial fraction of their base are violence-prone knuckle-dragging troglodytes who own lots of guns and are highly motivated to defend King Trump's honor.
Dunno what you want from the GOP hos. Trump is a useful true for the party's true special interests and he's still far and way the base's most popular politician. Can't rightly expect criticism from them.
I invite you to examine the primary campaign that Eric Cantor, the goddamn House Majority Leader, lost to David Brat, a clueless no-talent shitwipe who nevertheless had the enthusiastic backing of Laura Ingraham and a few other Tea Party loons.
The base is willing to eat anyone that even hints at breaking with the Fox/Limbaugh dogma.
Those libs are so easily triggered over NOTHING!!!! I mean, they get outraged at the littlest thing! Not like us manly conservatives! Buy my book to find out more!
Extra props for capturing how everything in Trump's world is either good for him or bad for him. When he can't understand Melania's accent, he's *inconvenienced.* OF course, I still think Roy is too kind to Mulvaney, but reasonable people, etc.
That photo of Mulvaney Face is mint perfect. Man, I really needed this Breaks It Down. I watched yesterday's testimony all morning, and the three good profs made me wish I was back in college. I loved it. All their specificity, parsing words and dates, utter clarity in that academic space that dislikes both hyperbole and understatement because the goal is just to nail. it. down. With a little style. The Repubs' prof was a pompous weirdo, unfocused and sometimes mischaracterizing what was said by the trio he kept calling "my esteemed colleagues" (you know, the way likeable people talk) -- but at the end of the day it was with hope that I glanced at the news to see how our genuinely sober look at history and law was playing. And the headlines were all REPUBLICANS OUTRAGED. And the quotes were all "only in the deranged twisted minds of liberals is it funny to mock a young boy" and I just did a mental table flip and walked away from the news.
If America goes down, it will be clear why: Total failure to honor reality. Thanks for this scene, Roy, I needed this one more than usual.

Yes. All of this secondhand angst in defense of the single most self-centered, sociopathic animal ever to occupy the Oval Office is disgusting.
I understand why maybe I should care about Barron but, in the greater scheme of things, I really can't care.
Melania's next act will be a post-White House divorce with a depressingly small payout (under the circumstances, if the Maples split is any guidance), NDA and threat of death for telling any truths.

For the establishment media, there's not only no difference between facts and GOP BS but the latter has to be given credibility. And here we are.

I feel this tension, too. In the long run, it’s probably better that we’re still able to be surprised and appalled by cynicism and stupidity.
But how will we ever come to love Big Brother?
I'm stubborn. I'll wait until they bring the rat cage.

beetle Bailey after Srg beats him up works for me. I like your Oval Office sketch a lot
Don’t think I can take much more of this ...

Roy's depiction of sullen Barron could only be written by someone who has parented a thirteen year old boy, or been one.
I like to think Barron differs from my younger self in that he has fuck-you money.
