I watched most of Abrams's speech. She is absolutely marvelous: Smart, intelligent, and a real fighter. I hoping she continues to rise in national Democratic circles. Who knows? Maybe her fighting spirit will rub off on Chuck Schumer and he'll be a wee bit less of a doormat for Mitch McConnell.
I'm not Polynesian (well maybe a little), but I see Abrams/O'Rourke in 20something, maybe after Trump decides he wants a third term and there is a big but mostly non-violent Rumpus and they take him away and call a special election, and then Abrams/O'Rourke and then I will be dead, because old. There's a thought: I might die happy!
Good people like Tracy keep (even uncharacteristic ) optimism and hope alive, given that arsewipes like Kemp gain office repeatedly. As for the editors of the New York Times, they have to live with the stink of Douthat and Brooks et al; hopefully it permeates their sandwiches.
I don't know. In any functioning democracy (or a place where people think democracy is functioning) I would think that the government of Georgia (and Florida) would be shut down with demonstrations and riots. That they aren't says a shit load about where and who we are as a people and none of it is good.
So that even though it is a well written column it does strike me as sort of Polynesian and more hopeful than realistic.
I didn't see that and let the auto-correct do it for me. I guess that I am so lazy that I do not deserve a functioning democracy. Or even a life in a fictional Vermont Happy Town.
You make a good point. All I can say is we're not there yet -- hell, every time someone yells at a Republican in a restaurant we get civility lectures from half the Democratic Party -- but maybe with a little more voter education we can get people thinking of themselves as citizens with all the rights pertaining thereunto, which will probably lead to civil disobedience at least.
And I only wish my column were Polynesian because I could sure use a month in Hawaii.
I'll buy this, and I mean retail. More: I wouldn't be surprised if Fair Fight Georgia quickly becomes a field experiment in fighting voter suppression, observed and contributed to by groups in other states. It would be satisfying if the loathsome Kemp's (and the GA GOP's) blatant theft had the effect of drawing serious scrutiny and counter-measures that make future similar cheating impossible.
Stacey Abrams has been an inspiration, an intelligent, articulate and passionate politician in the best sense while Kemp is your classic Jim Crow racist angry man, dumber than a bag of rocks. I predict he wiill be a giant dumpster fire as governor and, if he lasts ourr years disappears back into the woods with his pickup truck.
I've always thought one of the worst examples of Democrats' clueless inability to respond to GOP ratfucking was the well-funded Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign against Kerry. Party leadership underestimated the impact of this well-funded bullshit and were slow to put forth even a lukewarm response, and Kerry himself admits this. The vacuum allowed shameless GOP operatives and pundits from talk radio degenerates to the sainted Peggy Noonan to join the attack on Kerry's war record with impunity. Here's hoping that Abrams has lit a fire that won't fizzle out any time soon.
Like most Trumpists, Kemp is a racist piece of shit. (Google Kemp and "I'm so conservative" for video evidence of this.) A more honest campaign, in keeping with Georgia tradition, would have depicted him destroying a voting machine with an axe handle.
I'm excited, I just subscribed to Roy's newsletter and it's as fantastic as I thought it would be.
I won't be commenting much in the future - my approach is to let smarter people than me talk - but it's good money spent on a good cause. Keep up the good work Roy!!!

I'm crushing on her,. honestly. Sure, Beto, yeah, but man. I'd propose to Abrams in a heartbeat. My partner would too.

You have hope for Schumer? Generous. That guy is a fucking doormat through and through.

I like "Polynesian" for "Pollyanna-ish." Deliberate?

Don't feel bad. I'm so old it never occurred to me it was auto-correct. I done ya wrong!

Maybe a bit Easter Islandish but not Polynesian. I don’t think Roy is a native Hawaiian or Samoan. (Or did you meaan polyanna-like.

You sound pretty smart to me, Greg! Comment away!
Well, maybe the occasional rare interjection... ;)
