"Soon it seemed every sane person was acknowledging Trump was shit..."

So failure to acknowledge it is per se insane? Agreed!

Expand full comment

Of course that implies that there are at least 74 million insane voters out there.

Expand full comment

Not implies, confirms.

On one hand, I exaggerate; obviously there are instances where people honestly agree with Donnie, see him as a legitimate leader. But to be unable to see that he’s shit is a pathology. And very conservative I’ve known was bugnut to some degree or another - again, in what you can call radical denialism. So I guess all crazy, only degree in dispute.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I know. Awful, ain’t it?

Expand full comment

I think the case was much worse: every person person acknowledged Trump was shit, but insisted that every horrible idea be given the full weight of consideration anyways

Still looks like insanity defined.

Yeah this. Loved the message; hated the messenger.

This is sort of OT, but I’ve been easing my anxiety regarding the possibility Trump sets the world on fire on his way out by thinking about the many things I hate about him, that I will absolutely be relieved I don’t have to hear about as much after January 20.

One of the smallest, pettiest things I hate about Trump is the incredibly unimaginative nicknames he gives his enemies. He’s a disgrace to born and bred New Yorkers, because if we don’t like you we get creative and give you the kind of nickname that slips the knife in right at your most vulnerable spot.

Little Marco, Sleepy Joe, Crooked Hillary, seriously? With that kind of weak name-calling game I don’t even believe Trump is from Queens. I want to see his long-form birth certificate.

"Micro Rubio" was right there for the taking and he botched it.

Yeah. I don't know what they did in Jamaica Estates or at "military" school, but Trump wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes in the typical rank-out of my Brooklyn childhood. What always gets me is how ridiculously proud he is of the names and phrases he comes up with -- "I call her Crooked Hillary -- I made that up myself by the way. Like "fake" news and "Mad Dog" Mattis."

Expand full comment

Yeah, in my Bronx neighborhood we would have had him in tears in 5 minutes. Because you know he wouldn't fight.

While I don't trust Donnie to keep on shitting the bed, his self-pardon statement will take up a lot of his time, so...

Trump: I didn't lose! It's all fraud! Massive, overwhelming, complete fraud!

Conservative Chorus: Fraud! All fraud!

Media and Normal People: Oh, rilly? How about some evidence? Got any evidence?

Trump: Evidence!?!?! I've have so much evidence, it's just overwhelming. Complete, Devastating. Such evidence!

Media and Normal People: Can we SEE some of this evidence?

Trump: No, it's all tied up in court right now.

Courts: Can we see some evidence?

Trump Legal Team: No, um, because, uh, reasons and WOW! LOOK! at the squirrel!

Courts: GTFO!

Trump: We have so much evidence. Overwhelming. Devastating. Such evidence! But the courts wont allow us to present any of it! They're all Deep State Democrat moles--even the ones that I appointed.

Media and Normal People: Okay, so can we see some of that evidence now?

Trump: No, because, uh, Raffensperger's brother works for the Chinese! And, um, Hunter Biden, uh, well, . . . Just you wait until my Proud Boys march on Washington next week! THEN you'll see!

Interesting typo I think: nice instead of nick. Although after considering it I'd leave it.

Re Trump's brain worms: when I pointed out on LGM recently that Trump has advancing dementia, some snippy commenter said that I didn't know what I was talking about since the dementia patients the commenter had dealt with were "gentle' and "timid." The commenter obviously never met the woman I knew who was mean as a snake either with or without her marbles. I got an in depth clinical study of the process. I still say that Trump has dementia and that he'll be either dead or confined to a wheelchair unable to speak by the time 2024 rolls around.

Expand full comment

I'm betting he won the door prize at one of the nightly STD supperspreader events at Studio 54.

The LGM commenter knows squat. My wife knew a woman who was the kindest person imaginable her whole life, but when she got dementia her personality changed, and she would try to trip other elderly people with her cane/walker. The snippy Guardians of Civility need to pick more relevant battles to fight.

Expand full comment

Indeed. When my mother got dementia and I wouldn't let her drive any more, she literally fought me for the car keys. She never would have done that in her right mind.

He may sequester himself in a (not so) secret hideout, planning his 2024 run.

Not "may". He will be acting out an "alternate presidency" either in a new TV show on OANN or Newsmax or on his own YouTube channel, this year at least. Of course he will also likely be in court defending himself against his many criminal charges.

In any event, he will further mentally degrade of course and he will eventually disappear either serving time or living in a mental hospital.

I listened to enough of Our American Führer’s speech last night to realize our country is truly fucked. A politically healthy country would have rejected this asshole in November 2016. A halfway normal country would have driven him from office in January 2020. As it is, he’ll be ranting and raging from Mar-al-Punta, to applause from Republicans nationwide, for years to come. A political healthy country would start arresting fascists on January 21st, but that won’t happen - exhibit A: Dick Cheney still walks among us a free man.

I regularly get down and discouraged about the sorry state of my fellow Americans. I live in SW Ohio where there's an inbred racist cracker approximately every 12 foot. The Hopeless is pervasive.

Right next door to Beautiful Ohio (Our State song, believe it or not-Should be something by The Pretenders. Or Devo) is Indiana. In the 1920's an astonishingly large percentage of the government positions from Governor to Dogcatcher were held by card carrying paid up members of the KKK. It was the sort of place the most fucked up of my neighbors dream of. A dozen years later multiethnic groups of soldiers from all over the US fought fascists side by side, together.( Ok except for blacks. But you know 20 years later in a different war against godless communists, more black soldiers were killed in combat than any other group...this isn't going where I wanted it to, is it? ) Anyway - it gets better. I mean, there is a real chance some Jewish guy and a black preacher named Raphael are going to beat out two almost comically stereotypical white Republicans in senate races. In Georgia. There's enough hope in the off-chance of the Good Guys winning to get me through the day. We never used to even have a chance.

Hell’s doors opened here in 2010 when Scott Walker appeared and with his gerrymandered legislature dismantled the Progressive structure of the state’s economy and educational system. Paul Ryan and Ron Johnson are just two of the spawn of Joe McCarthy our voters have gifted to America. The legislature, unwilling to do anything about the pandemic except sue the Democratic Governor, is prepping the election rules that will guarantee no Democrat wins a statewide election again. (They only have to disenfranchise 20,000 - easy!) I appreciate your optimism and pray that should Ossoff and Warnock win, Biden, Schumer and Pelosi will embark on reforming the courts, granting DC and Puerto Rico statehood, and passing healthcare, voting rights and worker protection legislation immediately. But the alternative, Republicans in control of the Senate, will mean no progressive work will be done and the fascists will gear up to take the House in 2022. I’ve watched them wreck this state, I don’t doubt they’ll do the same to the country. And 70+ million assholes will cheer them on.

If we held our elections like normal democracies, Trump would be telling the Georgia Secretary that if the state gives him his 11,780 votes, he only needs another 7,048,335 votes from the rest of the country.

Bravo! Encore! I'm preparing myself to miss Trump. I can't wait to get there at this point. I am interested in what his mix of speed and "miracle vitamins" is, and whether he gets injections or has another delivery system. Even if it's prescription only, it could be a money-maker. They could do over the phone prescriptions. I can see the ads now. "Presidential success secrets revealed at last! You can beat COVID, too, and keep a grueling pace on and off the campaign trail and the links!"
