They are ABSOLUTELY going to try to memory hole the global pandemic. It’s their M.O. “Liberals think they are better than you, want to be the boss of you, and want to control your life” is their baseline principle and everything else springs from that. They’ve already decided the 1/6 insurrection was just a slightly too rowdy show of patriotism that was infiltrated by Antifa rioters. The pandemic is next: just a little flu that liberals got hysterical about, and now look: no one wants to work and the deficit is huge.

Thankfully, normal people won’t buy it because they live in reality, but conservatives stopped trying to persuade normal people a while ago.

Yeah, no. Josh Barro is a fucking asshole. If I come up to you wearing a mask and yell at you for not being careful, A) you're not worried I'm going to get you sick and B) my mask will prevent that anyway. If you come yell at me to take my mask off, you are spewing unmasked germs at me, which even outside is not safe, I may have an immuno condition that means I *am* at more risk than you, and you are in no way demonstrating that you are taking this shit seriously and I can assume you've been vaccinated.

It's not even remotely the same thing. You might as well be coming up to me with an unleashed dog and yelling at me to take the harness off my cat while we're going for a walk. It's assholes and oranges. We're not doing the same thing, and we're not morally or ethically equal, so stop pretending you're oppressed.

I see a number of people on FB who say NOW there is no pandemic, there are no 600,000 excess deaths it is all made up, by I assume the lizard people, but I'm not sure of that last part.

Don't let our successes under Old Joe fool you into thinking we're en route to herd immunity and getting the 'rona under maximum control. Unmovable obstacles preventing that start with our own fine people and the unfit pieces of shit they keep electing; Europe's various shit shows; and the hesitancy to ensure the global south get all necessary vaccines. Global problems require globals solutions and it's not that find of work anymore.

As for the wing nut media, well covid-denialism is Trumpy and they're running somewhat low on material, so they're getting a little desperate.

If everybody in practically the whole who knows of you calls you "Ham Face" this would seem to indicate you have the sort of comorbidity that is dangerous during a viral pandemic.

Ham Face needs to double mask, throw in a Face shield and stay the fuck home.

I guess will all be carrying guns soon. Will we be able to stand our ground against people who refuse to mask? They are certainly threatening our lives. Probably not. It'll probably ok for people who refuse to mask to stand their ground against people who do wear a mask . Judging is hurtful after all and very threatening.

I know. That's ridiculous. They won't be able to shoot you for that.

Running your hoity toity judgemental ass down with a car though- no problem with that!

"Reason magazine's Robby Soave, who lives in Washington D.C., says he’s been yelled at “something like six times” for exercising outdoors with no mask." As I may have mentioned before, zero is something like six, in that both are numbers.

“Where are you likely to have seen anyone even mention to someone who’s unmasked that it’s not cool?” Actually, I have seen this. Once. A couple of months into the crisis, a passing jogger angrily berated a couple of neighbors on their elevated front porch, a good ten feet from the sidewalk, as they sat there smoking. Then again, this is a contentious local character who reproached me, as I was bagging the output, for allowing my dog to crap on the verge (not hers). Assholes gotta asshole, I suppose, except the anti-maskers you cite appear to regard this as a bold affirmation of personal courage and virtue.

I’m happy that the CDC has given its blessing to distanced outdoor masklessness, but I’m going to give it another month or so lest I should seem to give aid and comfort to the sociopaths.

What "kills" me is that conservatives/Republicans/whatever-they-are spend literally all their time and energy writing and talking about, not hard economics, but *the inner person*--motivation, slippery slopes, "incentives," freedom, etc. while, at the same time, being proudly and openly hostile to the very idea of self-knowledge. They define therapy as self-indulgence. The same morons who wear FUCK YOUR FEELINGS t-shirts will say that they love Trump, not because of his policies, but because of the way he makes them feel.

Then again, Republican economic policies are a fraud, Dems always do better as regards employment/GDP/you name it, and the last thing a Republican wants is a more equitable economic system. That's not what their masters are paying for. So all the right-wing machine can do is to encourage its constituents to be proud of, and defend, their stupidity.

I still can't fathom the anti-maskers motivation. Do they imagine that if we willingly wear masks it's just the first step to marching into the concentration camps set up by Antifa? What political signalling is going on by putting a piece of cloth over your nose and mouth?

Maybe it's just because I've spent a large part of my life living in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia (I can't escape the allure of the turnpike culture), but I genuinely don't want strangers coming up to me and talking to me. If we're both in a ShopRite and we exchange pleasantries as we both reach for orange juice, no big deal, but if I'm walking down the street and you come up to me, it better be fucking important, not to discuss your political ideas formed by Facebook memes and Twitter subtweets.

Who...or WHAT...is the gentleman in the photo with the toilet paper necklace trying to be?

It looks like he has a pig snout on his head. Or are they supposed to be binoculars?

We all live more comfortably because we can forget/repress bad things we did or that happened to us (I think Mark Twain said forgetting was a gift, but I’m away from my library and the Google says it was Joe Biden!). But sacrificial Lambeau god, these assholes have already deepsixed 1/6/21 along with der Trumpenfuhrer’s assault on everyone who isn’t named Trump. Now we have Tim Scott, who’s great grandparents bought up other Blacks’ farms during the economic collapse of 1890-something, telling us Biden and the Democrats “are pulling us farther and farther apart.” What self-lobotimizing neuralysis do you have to perform to even float such a thought up to the level of your conscious cerebral cortex from whatever depths of your reptilian brain stem harbors the roots of your emotional dysphoria? These people are the ethical equivalent of a blind cobra striking a tethered goat, over and over.

I did not know this was a thing (although I should have). I had weird encounter with a drive by woman at the gas station yesterday which I posted about but had no idea (although I should've) that this was a general thing, people caring one way or other enough to breech the distance of civility on the basis of mask or no mask in a public place.

Much as some used to insist that A.I.D.S. wasn't caused by H.I.V., the virus the Government created at Ft Detrick, some rip the Democrats for not giving credit to Trump for speeding the development of the dangerous vaccine against the plague that doesn't really exist.

Didn't some well known jurist not too long ago make the analogy that eliminating legal protections for voting rights is akin to throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because, so far, you haven't been getting wet?
