As someone at LGM pointed out yesterday, Texas is the only political entity to secede TWICE in order to allow its White citizens to own Black people as chattel slaves. Texas broke off from Mexico when Mexico outlawed slavery, and sided with the treason states when it looked like America was heading the same way.
But take comfort in the fact that Texas, lead by ignorant and aggressive yahoos, selects the textbooks that the majority of American students use in school.
A lot of people complain about New Yorkers begin arrogant and obnoxious but I think Texans are worse. New York can at least back up it's braggadocious-ness. Texas is where it is at because of oil. Without it they are just a collection of the worse traits of Mississippi, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
If RWers wanted to press the Palestinian/AfAm analogy as an excuse of/justification for oppression, apartheid, & brutality, they could probably get most centrist Libs to sign off on it. If they haven't already, that is...
