This isn’t an effort to commemorate emancipation, it’s very clearly tied to the larger hard-left agenda to enshrine the racial history of this country as the prime aspect of our national story. They do not want to highlight all the good this country has brought to the world — flight, our Constitution, the defeat of communism and Nazism, the internet — but instead our racial sins. America is good and efforts to cast the country as otherwise should be opposed. — Statement by U.S. Representative Matt Rosendale (R.-MT) on the passage of a bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday.
STATEMENT FROM U.S. REPRESENTATIVE HIRAM P. GULLYWASHER (R.-TX)
The disgusting display in Congress on Wednesday of Democrats and weak-willed Republicans voting for some made-up holiday with the ridiculous Ebonics name of “Juneteenth” proves once and for all that the real racists are black people and those real-racist-lover whites who are afraid to say no to the real-racist blacks because they are afraid they will play the knockout game on them.
I would happily allow blacks to have a new holiday that reflected the basic goodness of America such as George Washington Carver Day or Ralph Bunche Day, provided they agreed to exchange it for an existing black holiday such as Kwanzaa so as to preserve, based on relative value to our nation, the present fair balance in black and white holidays.
But the woke cancel culture critical race theory Democrat mob shows no interest in this moderate proposal, so I am forced to take action to redress the balance. I am submitting a bill in the House that will honor a great white American with a brand new federal holiday. And to show that I am willing to reach across the aisle, I have chosen a white American from the entertainment industry, which is honeycombed with communists and beatniks, though the man I wish to honor was none of those things.
Liberace Day would honor Władziu Valentino Liberace, the great Polish-American musician, on his birthday, May 16. Liberace rose from humble beginnings to typify all things excellent, white, successful, and American. While other so-called artists in the mid-20th Century created loud noisy “avant-garde” music, Liberace promoted the classics of the Western cultural tradition, and performed them with rare elegance and style. When rock-and-roll jungle music rose like a flooded sewer in the 1960s, hypnotizing young people into slovenly “hippie” habits and clothing, Liberace pushed against the trend with exquisite clothing, beautiful settings, and the kind of shows you would not be ashamed to bring your mother to.
It was in fact my own mother who introduced me to the music of Liberace, and who told me about his struggles against the slanders of jealous competitors and other evil people who, like the Democrat cancel critical race mob woke theory culture, always seek to make what is good about America seem dirty and unwholesome.
I can think of no better answer to the perversion represented by this “Juneteenth” nonsense than to counter it with Liberace Day. My bill also promises to revive the spirit of bipartisanship that is so sorely lacking in these cancel race critical woke culture theory mob Democrat days: An astonishing number of Representatives from the other party have told me they will support my bill, “not only willingly,” as one said to me today, “but with delight.” I hope you will join me in calling for Congress and President Biden to make Liberace Day a reality and to show the world what America really stands for.
