I have always wondered what kind of pinched and painful existence produces people like this. Is it a self-exciting cycle kind of thing in which Judge was an asshole from an early age, and was thus treated as such by those around him, resulting in his assholery intensifying? Was it that he actually used to be a decent human, but then had some traumatic experience that made him decide being an asshole 24-7 is a better way to live because it keeps anyone from getting close enough to hurt you?
It doesn't really matter how he got there, though. He's an asshole, and he's proud of it, and he's proselytizing for others to join the Suckit Church of Asshole. The only question is, is he the Bishop or merely an acolyte, standing alongside Kavanaugh in hopes of making America asshole again.
Yeah, I know it doesn't really matter, but I still wonder, just like I wonder about Stephen Miller, who seems to have come from an unobjectionable family (although you never know a family's private dynamic), but still.... One wishes they'd agree to a series of brain imaging studies; maybe we could see the amygdala light up in a very strange way. But even if they volunteered, it would be wrong, I think, on account of it being intrusive. I mean, you'd have to be a asshole, right?
"I daresay that even Christ was capable of hate -- a hatred born of righteous anger, to be sure, and directed at sin and not people, but hate nonetheless."
In other words (with apologies to your reference of a favorite meme), Christ: what an asshole!
Why am I not surprised that Jusge can’t distinguish between righteous anger and base hatred? His reading of the gospels is a bit flawed and unorthodox. (Though I’m sure he and Brother Rod Dreher could have quite a biblical hate hootenanny together)

That is the sweet mystery of life, which is the real subject of this newsletter.
