They want this to be 1776 all over again, yet they're defeated by three girls in a Hyundai and tossed soda. They're not even sunshine patriots.

To paraphrase Lea Seydoux apropos her then boyfriend, they're nothing.

BYW, I did not know you were here, Pere. When did you get here?

Expand full comment

Oh, they are SO confused. 1776 is the only model of social change they've allowed themselves to have, and yet they can see that the hated libs and minorities seem to have gotten SOMETHING out of other, nonviolent less-than-revolution means, so they want some of that, but they're aping tactics they don't understand practiced by people they hate, so how could that possibly go well?

I suppose when you’ve got absolutely nothing to justify your actions – there ARE no meaningful Covid restrictions in most places or situations anymore – and people oppose you, there’s nothing else to fall back on besides an “even when I lose, I win” attitude.

I think they probably are, or think they are, testing the fences in preparation for another J6. But since most of what I’ve read about them makes me wonder if they are capable of hitting the urinal on the first squirt let alone toppling the federal government, I have to wonder if the big boys who are funding them really believe they are getting bang for their buck.

If the goal is to keep 70 million Americans on a slow boil, the trucker convoy is just one of many, many things they got goin'. From "Democrats want to put a child pornographer on the Supreme Court" to "Hate Joe Biden because he's a warmonger who's trying to get us into a war in the Ukraine" to "Hate Joe Biden because he's a wimp who's too scared to get us into a war in the Ukraine", they got LOTS of stuff, no one thing needs to be that effective to justify its relatively minimal expense.

And they really did win the masking fight. Not in the sense of actually persuading a majority of Americans they were right (they never succeed in that). But when Covid-24 comes along, you can be sure lots of local health officials will remember the death threats and hold back in doing, well, basically anything in response. Big win for conservatism (and the coronavirus).

The one thing all us commie america-haters have going for us with this is that when you have 50 manly “alphas” in a room trying to plan some patriotism like J6 Part 2, most of them are going to feel like they’ve been cucked if THEIR PLAN isn’t the one. You can generally count on their need to be in control of a situation to fuck it all up.

I think one of the lessons of Jan. 6 is that you don't have to be all that coordinated to almost overthrow the U.S. government. Just agree on the time and place, and the thugs show up to act on their own initiative. I suspect the scene you're describing, which I can easily imagine, would have taken place if they'd been more successful. Proud Boys and 3 percenters filling the Senate chamber debating what to do with their hostages, with the debate ranging from "kill 'em all right now" to "kill 'em all slowly over a period of days."

Personally hoping they don't die of the coronavirus, I'm hoping they're housebound and sick from long covid. Maybe with supplemental oxygen for the rest of their lives. And if they made fat jokes about covid deaths, I'm hoping they get diabetes too.

Arguably, this is awful of me, because wishing disabilities on people is the same as saying disability is a punishment and feeds into that fucked up attitude that leads to their "Well, sick people should stay home anyway" shit. But I'm an asshole and into ironic punishment, so I'm still hoping they lose a foot.

As for the tolerant lib crap: Well, you know, after exercising all that tolerance for those who deserve it there isn't anything left in the tank for them who previously mocked said tolerance.

And if I may stumble on my own metaphor, they're the cancer in the body of the nation that we're ignoring.

And to twist GM's comment from yesterday, they're *just* Franken-men, parodies of manly men, acting out the power they don't actually have having given it away to their beloved Republican pols.

The WaPo had a long, LONG, profile of the Head Trucker, the challenges he's facing, the occasional doubts he has about the mission and the people he's "leading", how he feels about being attacked by his own for being insufficiently revolutionary, and he didn't come off as a bad sort, just a confused guy in well over his head.

But as I read it I struggled to recall anything remotely like it about the leaders of an Iraq-era peace movement that could put hundreds of thousands of people in the streets of our major cities on the regular. Nope, didn't happen. Sorry, Leslie Cagan, the WaPo just wasn't interested.

Same mindset as the bundy crowd out west - the land belongs to the people, so I get to use it for my personal benefit. Same as a vegetable thief once told a gardener friend - this is a community garden on public land, so I can take what I want.

I live in Huntington Beach. For exercise I ride the beach walk through HN & Newport Beach. There are a couple of motor home parks on the beach. Whenever I see a Trump flag flying from a motor home, I flip it off.

Today a guy yelled at me when I did that. He told me it was his flag & told me not to flip the bird because his kids were around. I told him that wasn't my problem. If he doesn't want me flipping off the Trump 2024 flag, take it down.

MAGAts are deeply stupid. The asshole in question told me my gesture was offensive. I told him his flag offended me. He said something about the 1st Amendment. I said, yeah, that's why I can flip you off, free speech.

I'm certain he didn't understand.

I flipped it off when I came by it on the way home too. At least he didn't say anything this time.
