I think Omar could have chosen her words better, but reading her full statement, it seems clear she wasn't trying to downplay 9/11. Which is why any propagandist who *does* cite the whole thing will sandwich it between outraged sputtering that focuses on those four words alone. I know I'm just stating the obvious here, but I really can't think of any better way to say it.
At least since Newt's insistence on taking down the outrageously moderate Bill Clinton, the rightwing play has been, if you can't find a liberal supervillain, invent one. Their transparency would be laughable, if it didn't work so well.
But I guess if you're a 70something white dude with a giant suburban house, new car, month-long trips to the locales of your choice, and full health coverage, it's just FUN to believe there's a supervillain out to get you.
