An English explorer is trekking through the forests of deepest Africa. As his native guides lead him along, they come to a small clearing. As they enter it, distant drumbeats can be heard. His guides become very anxious.
"We must hurry from this place, bwana! We must go. NOW!"
They begin moving quickly along the trail as the drums become louder and ever more wild. After a couple of miles, the Englishman is growing weary. Still his guides push him on, becoming more insistent with each drumbeat.
"We must run, now, bwana! We must leave before the drums stop!"
Panting, the Englishman manages to ask why it is so important to get out of earshot before the drums stop.
"When the drums stop, then begins the bass solo!" his guide explains.
Haha, Bloomberg throwing virus at people is great. If it's real, he thinks he's invincible, and if it's fake, he thinks we're idiots, and I don't know which is true, so I guess I'd panic too.
I was startled to see Lee Marvin here this morning as I concluded last night by watching a movie that had Lee Marvin. Gorky Park, ever see it? It's not great. Full of Americans and Brits actors playing Soviets, which means acting opaque and stiff and telling each other tedious jokes -- haha, Dmitri, like a portly commissar, is it not so? Also there's a ludicrous scientist, played by Emperor Palpatine, who can reconstruct the faces of the dead by looking closely at their skulls. I am still not sure who killed who and why. But I did enjoy Lee Marvin. I found myself rooting for him. He seemed to be the villain but also was the only one who wanted something clear and specific and ever said anything clever. Good work, Lee Marvin.
I wasn't thinking of any specific movie but that's a great example. Emperor of the North and Cat Ballou are a couple more of my favorites from the way back machine. Fun fact - the train scenes from Emperor of the North were filmed just outside of Buxton, OR where I used to live.
In the spirit of the Mercury Theatres' Fascist "Julius Caesar" and Haitian "MacBeth", Roy Edroso's updated production of O'Neill's "The Emperor Jones" opened last night at the Delacourte to a capacity crowd of three people in Hazmat suits...
(Things took a darker turn after BLOOMBERG made it to his yacht's private slip only to find it had been burned to the waterline.)

This is awful
Yeah, I love it.
'Excellent choice!: DEATH BY BASS SOLO!!!'
Samoans are bad asses and they're big - the thought of tiny Mike sitting amongst a council of big Samoans is hilarious. Good one!

I like actors who can play bad guys well. Lee Marvin played some great bad guys.
You'd like Point Blank, if that's not already one you're thinking of.

Spoiler alert! Or maybe spoiler alert!
